Leighton McKnight CD

UWI Alumnus and chartered accountant Leighton McKnight CD, has received the prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica Distinguished Member Award for 2017 for sterling contribution to the accountancy profession and nation building. He is greatly admired for his philanthropy and community service by his fellow UWI Pelicans in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean; and in 2013, he was honoured by the Government of Jamaica with the Order of Distinction, Commander Class for Public Service, Philanthropy and Community Service.

Professor Rosemary Moodie

Professor Rosemary Moodie MBBS ’82 (Department of Paediatrics University of Toronto and Inaugural Board Director of Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital) has been honoured as the 2017 Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander by the Government of Jamaica for outstanding contribution in philanthropy, community development and medicine in the Jamaican Diaspora in Canada. She is Senior Accreditor with Accreditation Canada and has led the YWCA Toronto to open Canada’s largest affordable housing program for low-income women and women fleeing violence.

Dr Carissa F. Etienne

UWI alumna and Dominican, Dr. Carissa F. Etienne has been re-elected for a second five-year term as Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) by the Member States of the organization and she will assume her second term on February 1, 2018.

Peter Nelson

Kudos to UWI Pelican Peter Nelson, who obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the age of 25. He is one of the youngest PhD graduates from The UWI, Mona.

Dr. The Hon. Hubert Alexander Minnis

U​WI Alumnus, Dr. The Hon. Hubert Alexander Minnis ​M.D. is the fourth Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Dr. Minnis graduated from​ ​the F​acu​lty of Medicine​, UWI Mona, in 1980 with the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (M.B.B.S.)​ and completed his specialized studies in Jamaica in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1985​. He is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (MRCOG) and a Fellow of The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FRCOG​)​.
