STATEMENT

The University of the West Indies, Mona, notes with regret, the passing of the Hon. Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa and Honorary Graduate of the UWI, Mona Campus.

 
The University recalls with great pleasure his visit to the Mona Campus on July 24, 1991 when he was conferred with an honorary degree - Doctor of Laws (LLD).

{gallery}http://www.flickr.com/photos/theuwi/sets/72157638351481924/{/gallery} Professor Ann Marie Bissessar and Professor Emeritus John La Guerre officially launched their new book “Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana: Race and Politics in Two Plural Societies” on November 19, 2013. The launch was held at the Main Salon of the Office of the Campus Principal, The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus.

The book attempts to probe more carefully the processes by which social and ethnic problems, in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, are conveyed to the political arena and the mechanisms by which they determine critical outcomes.

The launch was chaired by Integrity Commission Chairman, Ken Gordon and Justice Rajmanlal Joseph delivered the feature address.

{gallery}http://www.flickr.com/photos/theuwi/sets/72157638350182555/{/gallery} A new book by Caribbean experts in the field of early childhood development, titled “Issues and Perspectives in Early Childhood Development and Education in Caribbean Countries,” was recently published by Caribbean Educational Publishers (2003) Ltd. Editors are Dr Carol Logie, Administrative Director of The UWI, St. Augustine Family Development and Children’s Research Centre (FDCRC) and Lecturer at the UWI St. Augustine School of Education, together with Professor Jaipaul L. Roopnarine, Adjunct Professor of Teaching and Leadership in the School of Education at Syracuse University, and a research scientist at the FDCRC.

The UWI, St. Augustine Family Development Centre (FDC), and the Office of the Campus Principal hosted the book launch for “Issues and Perspectives in Early Childhood Development and Education in Caribbean Countries”, at the St. Augustine Campus on November 21, 2013.
