The UWI Open Campus Hails the Late Trade Union Scholar, Professor George Eaton

Office of the Principal, Jamaica, January 27, 2017: The University of the West Indies, Open Campus regrets the passing of Professor George E. Eaton, Caribbean scholar and public servant.  Professor Eaton, at the time of his death, was the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Hugh Lawson Shearer Trade Union Education Institute: Consortium for Social Development and Research, UWI, Open Campus, and Professor Emeritus of Economics and Political Science and Senior Scholar at York University, Toronto, Canada.

So you may remember that I was On the Road for a few weeks in late 2016, following-up on research, networking and gathering ideas. One great contact was Pamela Forde, Archivist at the Royal College of Physicians in London, UK, who agreed to be videotaped talking about their collection, conservation, collaboration with museum colleagues, and exhibitions within their multi-use space.
So it’s this last point that’s in focus today.

The UWI Global Giving thrust continues

Monty Alexander, along with the Harlem Kingston Express, headlined a benefit concert titled “Home for Christmas” on December 11, 2106 in Kingston Jamaica which had as Co- Patrons the Most Hon. P.J. Patterson, the Patron of UWI Global Giving for Jamaica and Sir Hilary Beckles, the UWI Vice Chancellor.

Patterson’s experience as a UWI student was his inspiration for choosing this event as a way to help UWI students through his role in the UWI Global Giving Programme.

Frank Barnes

UWI graduate Frank Barnes became the Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT), effective January 3, 2017. Barnes holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering graduate from the UWI, St. Augustine campus and a Masters in Business Development and Innovation from the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business. He has more than 25 years of experience in construction engineering and resource management.

3-D ON A BUDGET FOR MUSEUMS & COMMUNITIES: Slideshow!

3-D technologies were the order of the day when the UWI Museum hosted facilitators from the University of St Andrews in Scotland who were in the Caribbean conducting workshops under a project aimed at community museums in Europe and Latin America & the Caribbean. The project is titled EULAC Museums and the University of the West Indies is one of several partners.
