The Human Communication Studies Conference 2013 theme was:
“Celebrating the Caribbean in Communication, Culture and Community”
This two-day conference was aimed at celebrating and presenting the latest human communication studies research among students and academic staff (faculty) from across the region and beyond the Caribbean. We encouraged submissions incorporating interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary frameworks and novel proposals using a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives.

On March 18, 2014, the Institute of International Relations (IIR) hosted a Distinguished Lecture by University Chancellor, Sir George Alleyne, titled "Health Dipomacy; Science Diplomacy. Can the twain meet?" Sir George sought to interrogate the incompatibility between the essential canons of science (in the area of health) and state diplomacy and generate a discussion on the possibility of synergy betwen these two seemingly disparate areas.
