Hurricane Irene 2011

Hurricane Irene began as only a Category 1 hurricane with maximum winds of 90 mph blew off some roofs and power lines through the Turks and Caicos Islands on late Tuesday. District commissioner for South Caicos island said, “It’s not as bad as I thought it would have been, so I am thankful for that. No death or injuries have been reported, the main concern now is that heavy rains could lead to flooding.” Following the storm there were no initial reports of injuries or major damage. Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos had more rain and wind damage than Grand Turk, which is lesser populated. However, the Ocean Club in Providenciales reported that all guests are safe and the resort had only minor cosmetic damage to the roof and buildings
