  • Tropical Storm Matthew 2016

    A fourth form secondary school student died after he was crushed by a boulder as he tried to alleviate flooding in his home during the passage of Matthew as a tropical storm. In Buccament Bay, a neighbouring village in Central Leeward, several people abandoned their homes and sought refuge in emergency shelters as the river nearby again overran its bank. There were reports of flooding in a number of areas, as well as landslides and power outages.

  • 2013 Floods

    On 24th and 25th December 2013 a tropical trough system produced heavy rains in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Local rainfall stations reported between 200mm and 310mm in a matter of 2 – 3 hours on the north windward side of the island and up to 153.3mm in the north leeward side of the island, which resulted in intense flooding across the island.

  • 2010 Hurricane Tomas

    A couple of hours after its center departed Barbados, Tomas became a hurricane. The eye of the hurricane moved over the northern coast of St. Vincent around 2000 UTC 30 October, while the intense northern eyewall passed over St. Lucia. Tomas was at its peak intensity of 85 kt during that time. Tomas downed trees and power lines, ripped off roofs, and knocked out power. No casualties were reported.

  • Tropical Storm/hurricane Omar 2008

    30 boats destroyed, damage along coastline EC $ 5 million, 1 death.
    The western coast of St.Vincent and the Grenadines was severely impacted by storm surge from Hurricane Omar. Preliminary assessment has indicated wide spread flooding, significant erosion and destruction and damage to coastal property and businesses in the Kingstown areas, Central Leeward, East St. George and the Northern and Southern Grenadines. Damage assessment is continuing.

  • Hurricane Ivan 2004

    In the Caribbean Sea region, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) estimates the damage at more than US$3 billion -- US$1.85 billion in the Cayman Islands, US$815 million in Grenada, US$360 million in Jamaica, US$40 million in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. 50 homes were severely damaged with 2 homes washed away into the sea; more than two-thirds of residents lost power. The storm affected Trinidad and Tobago and Saint Lucia and impacted Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, causing particular damage to homes.
