Hurricane Sandy impacted the island not from the traditional, south-easterly direction but from the south during what can be considered as the latter part of the North Atlantic Hurricane season. Rainfall analysis associated with the passage of Hurricane Sandy show that the three-day totals for rainfall was below their 30-year mean at most stations. Rainfall volumes at four stations exceeded the 30-year mean.

The formation of Tropical Storm Nicole which affected the island from September 28 – October 1, 2010 was the culmination of a series of sequential weather events between September 22 and September 27 due to Tropical Depression NO. 16.

As at September 19, 2008 the preliminary estimate of the damage and losses incurred by the Jamaican economy due to the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav between August 28 and 29, 2008 was $15.51 billion JMD (US$213.99 million), 2 per cent of nominal Gross Domestic Product in 2007. See Table below.
